For Colin Shattuck, it all started with ska music. The founder of Sportique Scooters had always loved the rude-boy lifestyle, and when he grew up, he wrote the book on it: Red Eyes, Whitewalls, and Blue Smoke: The Story of Scooters in America. Shattuck is also one of the grand poobahs of Denver City Denver, the association that puts together the Mile High Mayhem rally. For the record, Shattuck fancies the old-school scoots. “For those of us who ride and maintain our vintage Italian bikes, it’s important to set us apart,” he says. But scooters of all makes and models are welcome at MHM’s eleventh annual event. The theme is “Metal From Heaven,” so be sure to bring your bad ’80s hair and big ego, too.

MHM kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. at Nallen’s Irish Pub (1429 Market Street). At high noon tomorrow, riders will meet up at Washington Park and head to La Bohème (1443 Stout Street) for a little B’n’B (Boobs’n’Brunch). Later in the evening, the gang will rally at the original Sportique Scooters (3211 Pecos Street) for a Rock’n’Ride cruise to Rockbar (3015 East Colfax Avenue). Everyone heads to Morrison Saturday morning and then to the Skylark (140 South Broadway) Saturday night to play Rock Band. Sunday is the Master of Puppets City Ride to 3 Kings Tavern (60 South Broadway) for awards and a raffle. But the pinnacle event takes place on Monday, when the Mayhem hits the sticks for the MSRA Scooter Racing Finals at the IMI Kart Track (5074 CR 8 in Erie, off 1-25 at the Erie/Dacono exit).
